Can a Potbellied Pig Help In Therapy for Autism?

Curious to know how a potbellied pig can help in therapy for autism?

Maybe you are new to the world of animal assisted therapy for autism and had never heard how an animal can actually assit in something like speech therapy, but it’s true. A potbellied pig can help in therapy for autism and related disorders.
What is it about animals that can provide therapeutic value for cognitive, social, emotional functioning?
Meet Buttercup the Potbellied Pig Certified Therapist.

Speech pathologist Lois Brady and her Potbelly pig, Buttercup, had the pleasure of being on Rosy Chu’s Bay Area People. Lois and Rosy briefly discuss animal assisted therapy and its benefits; how it compliments traditional therapy. For more information on AAT visit us at proactivespeechtherapy.com.

We posted earlier about dogs and animal assisted therapy for autism and related disorders.  There we told of and praised one group of volunteers who ran a program to unite autistic children with therapeutic service dogs. We aren’t aware of any organizations that would provide a potbellied pig to help with autism therapy as of yet.  If you are aware any help us share and let us know also give us any other related  comments. Additionally if you are looking into a new business maybe there is a potbellied pig in your future.
